How to Search the Horry County Jail Roster
The fastest way to find a Horry County inmate is the county's own online tool. The Horry County Bookings and Releases app shows who was booked and who was released at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. It also pulls bookings made by the City of North Myrtle Beach. The search is free and open to anyone. You do not need an account or a login.
The tool runs in a web browser. It works best with cookies and JavaScript turned on. You can search by last name alone, or you can narrow things down with a booking date or a release date. Each result links to a profile with a mugshot, charges, and bond. The page also shows a live jail count and a stamp for when the data was last pulled.
Below the detention page sits the full search. The county warns that it cannot validate every entry, so treat the jail roster as a quick look, not a legal record.
Here is the official Horry County inmate bookings search as it loads.
From this screen you type a name or pick a date, then read the results grid right on the same page.
Horry County Inmate Search Fields
The bookings app keeps its search simple. You will not see a long form. A few fields and some sort controls do all the work, which makes the Horry County jail roster easy to use on a phone. The table below lists what shows on the search screen.
| Field | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Text | No | Searches the last name. Try "smith" to see matching bookings. |
| Booking Date | Date picker | No | Pick a date to see who was booked that day. |
| Release Date | Date picker | No | Pick a date to find released persons. |
| Search | Button | - | Runs the search. Shows "Searching..." while it works. |
| Reset Form | Button | - | Clears the name and both date boxes. |
| Sort headers | Clickable | No | Sort by name, sex, age, booking date, release date, or booking number. |
| Result / jail count | Display | - | Shows result totals and live male, female, and total counts. |
Note: the roster reads from the jail's own feed, so a fresh booking can take a little while to appear after intake.
How to Use the Roster Step by Step
Most searches take less than a minute. The trick is to start broad and then narrow down. A last name pulls every match, and you can sort or scan from there. If you know roughly when the person was booked, the date picker trims the list fast.
- Open the Horry County Bookings and Releases app in your browser.
- Type a last name in the Last Name box.
- To narrow results, pick a Booking Date or a Release Date.
- Click Search and wait for the results grid to load.
- Click a column header to sort by name, age, or booking date.
- Click a person to open the profile with the mugshot, charges, and bond.
If a name returns nothing, the person may not be in this jail. They could be held by the state, a federal agency, or another county. The released inmates page covers how to confirm a release or set up custody alerts.
What a Horry County Inmate Profile Shows
Each match opens a profile built from the jail's booking data. It mixes personal details with the charge list and bond. Some fields are left blank when the data is not set. The table below shows the fields you can expect to see for a Horry County inmate.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Mugshot | The booking photo, shown in results and in the profile overlay. |
| Booking Number | The jail's case number, such as HC01052653584. |
| Name | Last, first, and middle name as booked. |
| Age and Sex | Age in years and gender. The roster shows age, not date of birth. |
| Booking Date | When the person was booked in. |
| Release Date / Status | Release date, or "Still Incarcerated," or "Out to Home Detention." |
| Arresting Agency | The agency that made the arrest, like the Sheriff's Office or a city police force. |
| Charges | Each charge with a charge number, description, and count. |
| Bail Amount | The bond for each charge, or "NO BAIL SET." |
| Disposition | The charge outcome when set, such as "Discharged." |
The roster does not show a pod or housing spot, a date of birth, or a court date. For a court date, check the Horry County court records through the state Public Index. A booking entry is not the official court docket.
The booking and releases page links the same tool and adds one firm warning.
It states plainly that the Sheriff never collects bond money over the phone, a scam worth watching for.
J. Reuben Long Detention Center
Every Horry County inmate on the roster is held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. The jail sits outside Conway on J. Reuben Long Avenue. The Sheriff's Office has run it since July 1999. Director Marcus Rhodes leads the facility and brings more than thirty years in law enforcement. The center uses direct supervision and runs reentry programs that aim to lower repeat offenses.
You can learn more on the detention center page, which lists the mission, the PREA notice, and the facility contact. The jail also takes email during business hours only, so time-sensitive matters should go by phone.

This is the only county jail for adult bookings in Horry County. The Sheriff is Phillip E. Thompson, and his office handles court security, civil process, and warrant service alongside the jail. Here is how the detention center page looks.
The page is the main hub for inmate services, from bond info to visitation and money deposits.
Live Horry County Jail Count
The bookings app shows a running count of people in custody. It splits the total by sex and stamps the time the data was pulled. On May 26, 2026, the jail held 878 people in all. That broke down to 731 men and 147 women.
This is a point-in-time number, not a fixed cap. The count moves every day as people are booked and released. The county does not publish the jail's designed bed capacity, so the live count is the best gauge of how full the jail is. For trends and a deeper look at the numbers, see the Horry County jail population page.
Booking and Bond at the Horry County Jail
Booking starts soon after an arrest. Staff record the person, take a mugshot, and enter the charges. Most arrests come from the Sheriff's Office or a city police force, and those agencies show on the roster. From there the case moves toward a bond hearing, where a magistrate can set release terms.
Bond hearings and guilty pleas usually run at 9:00am and 2:00pm. Times depend on the magistrate's schedule, so call 843-915-5145 to confirm. The magistrate office at the jail keeps these hours: Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 6:00pm, and Saturday, Sunday, and holidays from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
A magistrate cannot set bond for every charge. Murder, accessory before the fact of murder, and criminal sexual conduct with a minor go to a Circuit Court judge, with the Solicitor scheduling the hearing. When a case has a victim, Victim Services must schedule the bond hearing so the victim can attend, as state law requires.
Cash or surety bonds are posted at the magistrate's office inside the jail. The office takes cash, money orders, and major credit cards. It does not take personal checks. Cash payers must bring the exact amount. There is also a "Cash and Dash" option for some bondable pay offenses, where the paid amount is the fine and the person still shows up on the ticketed court date. Call booking at 843-915-6911 to check if a charge qualifies.
Note: The Sheriff's Office never collects bond by phone. Anyone who calls asking for bond money over the phone is running a scam.
The bond information page lays out the hours, the payment rules, and the Cash and Dash details.
Read it before you head to the jail so you bring the right form of payment.
Release From the Horry County Jail
Release timing depends on the case. The jail figures release dates using sentence length, work credit, and good time. Some sentenced inmates earn time off through credits. The roster shows a release date once it is set, or a status like "Still Incarcerated."
For people without a ride, the jail notes that Coast RTA serves the area near the detention center. A released person may get a bus pass to help with the trip home. The roster will also flag someone who is "Out to Home Detention," a GPS-monitored option a court can order in place of jail time.
The release page explains the time math and the transport note.
To confirm a release, use the bookings app or call the jail. The released inmates page goes deeper on alerts and state or federal custody.
Horry County Inmate Visitation Hours
All visits at the jail are by video. There are no in-person, face-to-face visits at the glass. You can visit on-site at the jail using its video stations, or remotely from your own device. Either way, you first set up an account with NCIC Correctional Services and get approved by the facility.
| Visit Type | Schedule | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| On-site video | Mon-Sat 8:20am-10:50am and 1:00pm-4:10pm | Free |
| Evening on-site slots | Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:15pm-8:15pm | Free |
| Remote video | Schedule at least 24 hours in advance | $0.30 per minute |
| Weekly limit | Up to 4 visits per week, on-site and remote combined | - |
| Attorney visits | Call 843-915-5140 and ask for the movement center | - |
Every visit is monitored and recorded. Remote visits run from a computer, tablet, or cellphone once NCIC approves the visitor. The visitation page has the full rules, the dress code, and the scheduling steps.
Set up the NCIC account first, since the facility must approve a visitor before any session can be booked.
Mail, Messages, and Money for Inmates
Horry County moved its inmate communications to NCIC Correctional Services in late 2025. Most messages now run through that system. Physical mail takes a longer path and goes to a scanning center in Texas, not to the jail itself.
Mail rules are strict. A letter must include the inmate name, account number, and a return address. Pages must fit within 8.5 by 11 inches, with no more than five pages, scanned on the front side only. You can send one photo per mailing. More than one photo gets the whole letter sent back. Legal and medical mail are not accepted at the Texas center. NCIC electronic messages cost $0.25 per letter and $0.35 per picture, with no limit on how many you send.
Money for an inmate account can go in a few ways. A lobby kiosk at the jail charges a $3.00 service fee. You can also use an online vendor, a mailed money order to the cashier's office, or Western Union. No cash is accepted by mail. The released inmates page and the jail's own service pages carry the full deposit details.
